Hard news for us all. I was remembering my last conversation with Neil, of him selflessly checking on me to see if I wanted to use his boat to go fishing. Only if you come along, were my last words to him. Every conversation seen to start with, " I need a hand for a minute". He always said yes and it always turned into laughter. His infectious laugh is what I'll hold onto. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'll never look across the garden the same way again.

Ruby and I are saddened to hear of Neil's passing. I have many fond memories of our laughter and good times practising for our choir and solos at the church. I have thought many times of the musical contribution he made to the church both in Lewisporte and Porterville. He gave so freely of his time and will certainly be remembered for that and for so many other kind and giving aspects of his life. He was a good friend.

Vera and family, I’m very sorry for your loss. Neil was a wonderful person and will be missed by all who knew him. I have many memories of spending time with him both at your home prepping for solos at church and during church services. I know how much he loved music.
I remember one of the last times I was home, he asked when I was going to sing again at church. We had been prepping for O Holy Night and In The Garden a couple times before I moved away. I kept saying next time whenever he asked. Well that will have to wait until we meet again.
Cherish all the wonderful moments you shared with each other, and lean on family and friends to help you thru this difficult time.

To Vera and family, to Neil's church families in both St. Matthew's and Porterville, I send my deepest condolences. I search for words to describe that special relationship that Neil and his gift of music brought to our worship services. He truly lived God's word in all aspects of his life and indeed he followed the command to "Make a joyful noise to God all the earth, sing the glory of his name" (Psalm 66). So sorry to hear of Neil's passing. I met Neil while working with Scotiabank in Lewisporte and always enjoyed our chats when he stopped by the branch. Back then he was an avid golfer and he and his buddies played as often as they could which was usually at least two or three times a week and sometimes more. Neil always walked the course and he told me he wore out a pair of duckies one summer playing golf. Rest in Peace Neil.

I have such fond memories of Neil growing up in church....Trevor & I playing the trumpet & flute respectively at both St.Matthews and Porterville United Church, Neil accompanied me so many times as I sang solos in both churches.
Every time he ever saw me he would asked when I was going to come out and sing. He was always quick to remind me that I was a “Porter”. I know my Dad has very fond memories of growing up together in Porterville. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him and in both churches where he was such an important asset. I thank God for you Neil and for the gift of memory...you will never be forgotten. All my love & prayers to Vera, Trevor, Bob and families.
