We cannot think of Pastor Bursey without thinking of the word “encourager”. To two young bible college students, who then turned into two young pastors, his words were always full of kindness and wrapped in wisdom. Our first pastoral position was St.Lunaire-Griquet, Pastor and Mrs. Bursey also had a term there as well. Whenever we would come back to our home church they would be one of the first to greet us with questions of how the people were doing and a promise that their prayers were with us. It wouldn’t be true if we said we weren’t saddened by the news of his passing, the loss will be felt whenever we visit the church. However, like we have been promised, we do not sorrow like those who have no hope.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you today even though we couldn’t be at the service.

I met this man when he came to Hawkes Bay as a Pentecostal Preacher. Although I was not following the Pentecostal faith he accepted me as if I was one of his congreation and I became friends with all of his family. I have some fond memories of him and he earned my utmost respect right from the beginning. He was well respected by the whole community and he somehow thought Us all of the aspects of life. RIP my friend I will always remember you.

Hi Norma; and the Bursey family so sorry for your loss, but as you have said, “you will see him again in heaven!” That is the great hope we have as believers! Dad passed in 2014 and mom, Christmas Day 2017. I miss them so much and wish I could have a chat from time to time like we did. I look forward to our heavenly reunion! I don't know if you know my healing testimony when I was a child which includes you dad? In short, “When I was a very young child I had a condition which I understand was a stomach/digestion condition. When I would eat I would throw it back up. My mom took me to doctor and he said I needed surgery due to the linings of my stomach growing together…(as my mom told it). My mom miscarried her first child and now her second child, "me" was facing a serious surgery …. She did not much like this ideal of surgery, so she sent a prayer request to healing evangelist Oral Roberts and I believe received a prayer cloth. She also called the pastor who was at that time was your dad, Nurk Bursey,. that would have been in Virgin Arm. He came to the house prayed for me and as I remember what my mom told me, I threw up, and he said, that's the last time, God has healed him and he's gonna be a preacher. Well the doctor was not happy when mom told him that I was not gonna have the surgery, he said something to the fact that I would grow up to be a crippled, and would not be normal. Well; guess what.... you dad was a true prophet/man of God! I was healed and have never had any of those problems all these 61+ yrs, and now a preacher for 37+ plus yrs. and Oh yes: the doctor might have been somewhat right, “the not being normal part,” Normal whatever that means, (smile)! Who wants to be normal, (too many normal people), we strive to be, beyond normal...in a good way! God bless you, and your family, and may His peace, (Peace on Earth, and good will…) be yours this Christmas, even in the midst of your dad’s transition from earth to Heaven! “Absent from the body, Present with the Lord!” Please feel free to share on your open page if you like! It may encourage someone to believe God for healing and for someone to step out in faith and declare what God is speaking through them!

My most favorite memory of Pastor Bursey is when he was in Carter's cove. The great revival. My dad and I were baptized in water the same time. Although I was only a boy, I still remember the move of God, and have spoken of it often in my ministry.
