Obituary of Florence Pearl Shave

Florence “Pearl” Shave (Leyte) aka “Speedy Pearl” passed away peacefully at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on July 28, 2021 at the age of 88 years. She was the daughter of the late Mark and Gladys Leyte. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Phil, daughter Marg, brothers Copper and George; her sister-in-laws Phyllis and Joan, granddaughter Chantal. Leaving to cherish her memory are her children Jerry (Barb), Sharon, Don, Charl (Margo), Brian (Theresa), Gus (Wanda), Paula (Tyson) and Mark (Shirley). Brother Markie, sister-in-law Mary Leyte and Margaretta (Jim) Lockhart, 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear family friends. Loving, devoted, compassionate, honest, kind, thoughtful are only a few words that describe her. Pearl didn’t care who you were, where you came from or what you had; she respected everyone. She freely gave her time to help anyone in need and cherished the time she spent as a teacher assistant with students with exceptionalities for over 20 yrs in Labrador City/Walbush. She wasn’t a knitter or a sewer but if you needed bread or buns she was your lady. Pearl continued to make bread until a few weeks ago. You can’t think of her without having a laugh or two about card games you witnessed her playing. Up in Lab City we referred to the card playing group as the Geritol Gang. But most of all Pearl loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly. Cremation will take place and a celebration of her life will take place next year when her family can return home to Newfoundland We have gained another Angel to watch over us with the love she had for each of us. . We love you Mom and we know dad was there waiting for you.
