Obituary of Edna Dorothy Saunders
Please share a memory of Edna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edna was born to Selina and Fred Powell on Saturday, July 18, 1942. Edna grew up in her beloved Red Rock Cove. As a young woman she went in-service with the Fancy and LeDrew families. She soon met Roy Saunders and shared a marriage that lasted for 55 years. They raised three children while facing the many challenges of life together. Edna was a very busy homemaker.
Meticulous in every task. Cleanliness was next to Godliness was her motto.
She worked at the Fish plant and a number of years as a home care worker.
She took pride in her church in which she held many offices; Sunday-school Superintendent, lay-pastor, and member of the Board of Management. Edna also served as president of the WM ( women’s mission).
Edna’s mission was to be a good friend and help those in a time of sorrow. Edna often professed her love of her personal saviour, Jesus Christ and what he meant to her.
Jesus said, “Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me,”
Edna loved children. She held a weekly children’s church and special occasion programs highlighting the children.
Her brothers Fred and Albert always held a special place in her heart especially at Christmas time. Her children Dale, Gail, and Michelle were her jewels who were so precious to her. Her Grandchildren Jill, Crystal, Jenny, Danny, Brandon, and Brady were her gifts from God. Her great- grandchildren
were the apples of her eyes.
Her nephew Albert Jr. and family were very dear to her as was her niece Tenshia and family. Cindy and her Girls held a special place in her heart. Kathrine, Ross, Brian and Lisa were loved by Aunt Edna. Edna loved her sons in laws Roy and Eldon, and daughter in law Cathy. Brendon, Scott, Melinda, and Kelsey easily won her heart. Edna cared deeply for her brothers in law Elam and Frank, sisters in law Maddie , Janet, Daphine, Lorraine and Ivy.
Edna is remembered as our matriarch, our friend and God’s servant. Till we meet again. Happy heavenly birthday Dad! Your greatest gift is coming home.
The Family is ever grateful to Edna’s home care workers, Especially Sharon , Claudette and Nicole of Birchy Bay and everyone at Gander care home, especially great niece Melissa. You were very special to Mom.
