Calvin's family and mine knew each other many years ago through Glad Tidings Tabernacle in Toronto. My wife and I had seen Calvin and his wife on a Newfoundland TV show. We were planning a trip to my wife's home, in Hr. Grace NL, from our home in New Hampshire and called Calvin to see if he would like to have a cup of coffee and reminisce when we drove through. When we arrived we were told to put our suitcase in his boat and the next thing we knew we were at Calvin's island home where we met his wife. We were invited to stay overnight. Calvin and Marilyn were gracious hosts and many memories were shared. Calvin was a kind and generous person. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Lynn, I’m so sorry to hear of Calvin’s passing. My last memory of him is when he’d visit Mom when her and Calvin were both in Gander Hospital. They really enjoyed their chats about their younger years and people on Samson’s Island. One day when he came to visit he was wearing a royal blue shirt and the color looked so nice on him, which I told him.

Cal was a kind and caring guy.
I babysat for Cal and Lynn many years ago, as we were neighbours on Solina Rd. One year he asked if I would like to go with the family to Jamaica. It was my first trip ever and I will never forget his kindness.

When we lived in Scotland it was enough to express high praise to say of a man who had passed, HE WAS A GOOD MAN. This meant he was a hard working, friendly, caring person of good character, always ready to help out a friend or just someone who needed a hand up. The Cal Potter we knew for 60 years was all of these things. "He Was a Good Man"
Our family spent many happy hours with Cal, Marilynn, Allan & Lisa at there home in Bowmanville , and a smile comes to our faces when we think about Cal. We will miss you old friend your big smile and hugs.

It's a long time since I worked for Cal, but , to this day I cant think about this man without smiling. I was always greeted with "before we get down to business sit down and tell me how you are".
He was an absolute delight. This world needs a lot more "Cal Potter" in it. Thanks Cal, you will always remain an inspiration . God bless you, you'll be sorely missed.
