I don't know how to put into words how saddened I am with Dennis's passing. I enjoyed working with Dennis for over 16 years.
During our morning chat to see what was on the agenda for that day, when I asked Dennis how are you? He always replied "just about perfect". The same answer all the time. He was a great friend and co-worker and the whole community feels his loss.
I will miss the treats of squid, fish, beets and the list goes on that he gave me. He was always so generous.
To Donna and the family, my sincere condolences. RIP Dennis, you will never be forgotten.

Oh Dennis , you were a man of nature. Loved being out side. Always poking at something and no matter what you were putting together, a baby cradle or a hen house, you put your heart and soul into it. I will remember the feeds of squid rings, fish and fresh eggs.Your passing leaves a big hole in not just our family, but the community has a whole. Love you my sweet brother in-law

You can’t be a Newfoundlander and not brag about Newfoundland, and when I bragged about Newfoundland, I would talk about Dennis. He was a breed of Newfoundlander that has all but disappeared around the island. I would joke that if all the grocery stores in Lewisporte closed, Dennis wouldn’t give it a second thought, he’d look at you, “G’wan by, sur you don’t need dat stuff”
He grew his vegetables, made his jams, bread, canned rabbit, moose, salmon and anything else he could fit into a canning jar. Smoked salmon and kippers, freezer full of moose, caribou, fish, squid you name it.
I’m pretty sure the only reason he ever bought beer or a bottle of rum was to have the bottles for his next run of home-brew and hooch.
I left home pretty young so coming home to Donna and Dennis’s was a treat like no other. I still say no one can cook like Dennis (sorry Mom). I would leave to fly back to the Mainland with every piece of clothes I owned wrapped around bottles of precious goodness hoping they’d make it back in one piece. I saved every jar for a special occasion.
Dennis was always good to everyone, he would give the shirt off his back. But, for me it was more than that. He never knew it but he was like the big brother I never had.
I will miss him a lot….going home will never be the same.

My beautiful caring amazing Brother in-law, What do I say about you Dennis? How do you put in words how special you were to all of us? Your smile was enough to knock someone over . I do remember us all sitting in your back yard one clear night talking about how bright the stars are . A few of us were looking at them and taking photos with our phones to see if we could get a closer look. You looked over and said will you guys put away those phones and sit back and look at the stars with your eyes not with the phones. You didn’t have much time for phones. And I sure don’t blame you lol . I will cherish ever memory Dennis, those fresh squid rings last year right out of the beach and the smoked fish you kept for me will never be forgotten and sure will be missed. Oh I am sure I can go on but it all goes back to one thing . You are loved , you are missed and now you fly with the Angels. And you can bet I will be looking up at those stars on every clear night with a smile .Love and miss you always
