Eulogy for Doreen Martin
By Larry Sheppard (Neighbour)
And including a tribute by her sister Bernice Budden
Good afternoon. As noted in your bulletin I am a neighbour of the family. As such, I will be speaking on behalf of the Martin and Budden families.
A eulogy, by definition, should reflect the character, personality, achievements and values of the person who died. Some of the family realized that the information on the back of the bulletin does that. So let’s read some of that information. “Doreen enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life; such as crafting, painting, and playing the piano. She spent many serene hours perfecting her skills. Doreen loved spending time in the kitchen, creating many delicious meals and baking – especially fruit cakes and goodies that were always shared with family, friends and neighbours. For most of her life Doreen stayed at home and raised her children. In later years she went to work providing home care to those unable to care for themselves. She thoroughly enjoyed the friendships she developed with her clients. These friendships continued long after she had to stop working because of her own health issues. Her clients loved her and appreciated her meticulous attention to detail. “
Audrey and I have been neighbours with the Martins for many years and in past years sang in the church choir together. Our most recent visit to her house was to help with her new cell phone...and yes she likes to know every detail!!
Doreen’s sister Bernie wrote the following tribute which she has asked me to read today.
“ Hello to everyone who is here to celebrate Doreen. I’m Doreen’s sister Bernie. I’m so sad that I cannot be there with all of you today. Though our hearts are heavy today, the good news is that we know that Doreen is at peace in her Heavenly home where there is no more pain or sadness.
Today is not just sad, but it is also a day to celebrate her life!
Doreen was a sweet and kind soul! She was a server, a giver and a helper. She was a loving wife, a mother, a sister, and a friend. She loved to entertain guests in her home. She was an amazing homemaker. Her cooking and baking skills brought us to her table, not wanting to leave. Doreen loved to laugh and loved her hobbies. She was an artist and took so much joy from her crafting and painting.
Doreen loved her family – her son Corey, her daughter Deanne and her loving husband Dave, as well as her extended family and friends.
Today, I am imagining the moment she is greeted in her TRUE home by open arms that are filled with love and joy! Heaven has gained another angel!
We will all miss you, my precious sister but we will never forget you! Rest well until we meet again.” Your sister Bernie
And now I (Larry)would like to personally address Deanne, Corey and David;
Deanne ..... Whenever Audrey and I would meet you in recent years you would always ask if your Mom loved Jesus. Yes Deanne, Mom loved Jesus as she assured you a few months ago when she recommitted her life to the Lord. She is now in His presence. Jesus loves you and Corey now in your loss.
And Corey.....you shared some of your health issues with me yesterday...but I already knew about them.....your Mom always called the church and made sure that you were on our prayer list. That to me is the greatest service any mother could do for her child....make sure that he or she is brought before God in prayer.
So David , as you and your children adjust to this new reality without Doreen please be assured that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Remember that Jesus still extends the invitation....”Come unto me and I will give your rest”
I would like to quote one more scripture verse to end - Rev. 14:3
13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labour, for their deeds will follow them.”
Rest in peace Doreen.

Uncle David, Deanne, Corey and families,
So sorry for your loss, condolences to you all.
I remember coming for Christmases at your house and looking at all the presents, playing with Deanne and Corey.
She always loved her keyboard and showed me her paintings and all the rocks she’d Painted. And of course I remember all her treats and fruit cakes she would share. She dropped off a few treats for our kids a couple times though the years. Thank you for sharing with my kids!
When Katelyn was a baby and you came to sandy point and she spent time playing with Katelyn. She really enjoyed the attention from her Great Aunt Doreen.
She will be missed by all her family and friends. Hugs and love from all of us to Uncle David Deanne and Corey. Take care and may the memories and love for her help you through this difficult journey. xoxo
Love Always,
Petrina, Rene, Katelyn and Patrick

Uncle David, Deanne, and Corey.
Aunt Doreen was a special sweet caring aunt, I remember staying at your house as a kid playing lego's and watching movies with Corey. Aunt Doreen always had baked goodies for us to snack on. One special memory was of her fruit cake which she would but a nip of brandy in Lol, I really enjoyed havin a piece of that cake.
When I got older and would stop in on my visits home with Danielle and the kids , she was always very welcoming and inviting and made time to sit have a cup of tea, share some yarns.
Aunt Doreen will be greatly missed but will live on in our memories.

Some great memories that Wade and I have had over the years with Doreen. When visiting with you both she always put out the best meals and lunches, making sure that you had enough. We sat around talking / listening and enjoying our time together .
Our family get together’s at the cabin and also at our house .
A great photo in 1988 David, Corey, Doreen, Mom and Lloyd .
Dustin had a really nice visit with Aunt Doreen , “” she loved him “” in 2019 spending time with her and Uncle David . Ha ha she took her 2 hands and patted both sides of his face “ so cute “ I can see her doing it now ! As I’m writing this .
Jason’s visit in 2022 was a pleasure for sure , again Aunt Doreen smacked Jason’s stomach “”” oh my Jas your getting fat , she said “” With a big laugh, looking up at him . They both had a great time and had some pictures taken when she got herself ready for them . When leaving Jason said he would see her again when he comes home his next trip .
Doreen you will always be remembered !
Love ❤️ and prayers to David , Deanne and Corey.

Found this picture in the archives - don’t recall getting it taken but I certainly remember the circumstances around it. I’d just started a job with a travel agency and had to go to Toronto for training. Doreen was going to visit her sister, Diane in Toronto, so we travelled together. It was my first time on a plane (not sure if it was Doreen’s first or not). But I’ll never forget how dignified and calm she was throughout the flight. Me not so much - I was in extreme pain with the air pressure and ended up unable to hear anything. I was 100% dependant on her ears! A very memorable experience!

My Aunt would always call me Pammy , I remember one day. When I was about 15 years old, I told her that I was too old now to be called Pammy and she said that it was going to be hard to stop but she did eventually. Whenever I would go to visit, she would always have something baked and always offered a cookie or a bun or whatever she had.
